      Nature After Hours

      Every Thursday from September 5 to October 24, 6:30-9 pm

      Unwind and learn with us as we uncover local, seasonal and surprising elements of nature. Enjoy light bites, lively conversation, and hands-on activities while immersed in the beauty of the forest and the historic Groesbeck Lodge. Pop into a flash talk, join a guided hike, or sip on a special signature cocktail crafted with nature in mind—each week is a new adventure! Ticket price includes light snacks and a small tasting of the signature cocktail. Signature cocktail, wine, and beer will be available for purchase.

      Preregistration required—click on the dates below to register for each program. Members and nonmembers $10 (includes daily admission). Guests must arrive before 7:30pm in order to enter.

      September 5: Survival Skills
      Do you have what it takes to survive in the wilderness? Play an interactive game to test your mettle while investigating basic survival skills. Try out hands-on techniques and use your creativity to navigate an evening of fun and learning. Presented alongside our friends at Roads Rivers and Trails.Signature cocktail: “Gimme Shelter”

      September 12: Monarch Season
      Join us as we toast Monarchs, iconic native pollinators, and their plant of honor, Milkweed. September marks the Monarch’s stop in the Cincinnati area as part of their epic, multi-generational migration across North America. Search for Milkweed, find your way through a Monarch obstacle course, and learn more about what we can do to keep the Monarch’s journey going. Signature cocktail: “Butterfly Kiss”

      September 19: Pawpaw Party
      Celebrate Ohio’s native state fruit, the Pawpaw, on National Pawpaw Day! Now dubbed the “hipster banana” due to its growing popularity with foodies, the Pawpaw has a long and rich history in North America. Search for Pawpaw, discover Pawpaw lore, and get a taste of this curious, custardy fruit. Signature cocktail: “Pawpaw Colada”

      September 26: Nature Calling
      Humans might be the only species with telephones, but nature has a multitude of intricate and surprising ways to communicate. Find out how and why certain animals (and plants!) share information and resources with one another as we think about ourselves as social animals. Signature cocktail: “The Beckoning Flower”

      October 3: Deer Secrets
      White-tailed deer are a commonly encountered animal in our area, but you might not know the whole story. Learn about the romantic lives of deer as we dish about the high drama of mating season. Signature cocktail: “Hey baby…”

      October 10: Living Luggage
      Discover how human-aided migrations of plants and animals have changed our land and history – and how our own native wildlife has impacted other places. See species from far-away places that may live in your own backyard, and hear some of their strange stories of travel. Find out how our native Ohio species are affected by these new arrivals and what you can do to protect them.Signature cocktail: “The Traveler”

      October 17: Murder Mystery
      Channel your inner detective as we investigate a few of nature’s cold cases. Use forensics and clues to discover “who done it” while learning about our local food chain and common area predators. Signature cocktail: “Caught Red Handed”

      October 24: Night Skies
      Explore the mysteries of the night sky and appreciate the beauty of nighttime in nature as we welcome in the darker months of the year. Peek at stars through a telescope, use a star chart to map what you see, learn basic astronomy skills and test your knowledge with space trivia. Signature cocktail: “Waning Crescent in a Dark Sky”
